The data reveals not just a list of countries, but a narrative of varying cultural and educational priorities.

English is not the only language that Poles learn, but it is certainly the most popular.

Most popular languages to learn in Poland

Keyword 'Learning' + [Language]. Example: 'Learning English'.

Poles learn English mainly because it increases their chances in the job market.

Learning English is quick and can contribute to higher wages more effectively than higher education.

Learning English for someone with very basic knowledge takes about 700 hours of study. This might seem like a lot, but it translates to one full semester of studies.

On the other hand, university studies in most cases last several years: four years for a bachelor's degree and two years for a master's degree.

This means that proficiency in English is a career development catalyst in a relatively short time. The motivation to learn English goes beyond the time it takes to master it.

In Poland, proficiency in English is seen as a gateway to better career prospects, particularly in sectors that require interaction with international companies or foreign clients. According to a comprehensive survey conducted by Statista*, more than half of respondents are actively engaged in learning English or have plans to do so.

What is intriguing is the motivation behind this: nearly 70% of respondents cite personal development as their main goal, while 36.8% express a strong interest in enhancing their professional skills.

The pursuit of fluency in English among Poles also emerges as a factor that strengthens individual positions and contributes to economic growth on the international stage.

According to an article from Idealista*, Poland is at the lower end of the salary spectrum in the EU, ranking 23rd out of 27 countries.

Poles view mastering English as a way to overcome economic limitations and open the doors to better-paying opportunities on the international job market.

Supporting global competencies and bridging language differences.

In recent years, the importance of education in English has increased in Polish institutions, marking a significant change in the academic and school landscape. A considerable number of academic programs, lectures, and events are now conducted in English, providing an incentive for students to improve their language skills.

The study conducted by Savanta* sheds light on the changing linguistic landscape of Poland.

50% of respondents admitted that they do not know English or know it at a basic level. However, the study also revealed a surprising paradox — as many as 90% of those surveyed expressed a strong desire to learn and improve their language skills.

This interesting dynamic highlights the growing awareness of the importance of English proficiency in a global context and signals a shared effort to bridge the language gap for a better future.

Hotel language in the Polish tourism boom

The tourism sector also plays a key role. With the development of the tourism industry, the ability to communicate effectively in English has become essential. As the number of foreign tourists in Poland grows, the demand for English-speaking specialists in the tourism sector has significantly increased.

In response to this trend, many tourism-related companies and service providers have recognized the need for English proficiency among their employees. From hospitality to guided tours, fluency in English has become a hallmark of high-quality services. This shift in paradigm reflects not only the practical aspects of global communication but also a commitment to providing an inclusive and enriching experience for international guests.

This linguistic transformation extends beyond the professional sphere, influencing local communities and encouraging initiatives for language learning tailored to the tourism sector. As Poland positions itself as a popular travel destination, the ability to navigate linguistic diversity becomes a key asset, ensuring warm and welcoming experiences for guests from all over the world.

Poland strategically values English proficiency for personal, economic, and tourism development. Recognizing this language as essential for international prospects, the country invests in language education, bridging gaps in the educational environment and career opportunities.

Despite lower average wages, Poles view English as a pathway to better-paying jobs, as research confirms. In tourism, English is essential for communication and enriching experiences.
